Alongside his clinical practice in Bellevue and Renton, Dr. Schmitz is dedicated to expanding access to ophthalmic care in underserved communities. As a Board Member and Medical Director of Individual Missions with Benevolent Missions International, he helps organize and lead visiting surgical and clinical teams in Belize and Fiji, as well as supporting equipment donations to strengthen local eye care infrastructure.
His peer-reviewed research also includes methods for intraocular lens power calculation for humanitarian missions based on partial biometry, published in the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
